Our 1-to-1 Daytime Service helps young people from Camden and surrounding boroughs who are having difficulties attending school or within the school setting. Mentoring helps young people build social skills, develop life skills, become more confident, feel happier and become better engaged with education.
Who is the Mentoring programme for?

Mentoring is for any child or young person aged 4 to 16 who is experiencing difficulties managing in education.
Young people who are struggling in play or youth settings or the home environment can also be referred to our Mentoring programme. Our programme participants often experience social, emotional and mental health difficulties or have Special Educational Needs (SEN).
How does the Mentoring programme work?
When a young person is referred to the Mentoring programme, we will assign them a key worker who is experienced in working with children and young people with social, emotional and mental health difficulties or who have special educational needs. Young people are matched with key workers based on their needs, the expertise of the key worker and personality ‘fit’.
We work with the young person, their family and the referring agency to develop a set of targets and outcomes. Based on this, we will then create a personalised programme of educational activities that suit the young person’s interests. Popular activities include:
- Cooking and healthy eating
- Sports
- Building life skills
- Trips to places of interest around London
The sessions last between 3 and 5 hours and take place during school hours in term-time.
How to make a referral
Referrals can only be made by individual schools, SEN departments, pupil referral units/special schools, and other agencies working with children, young people and families. We are not able to accept referrals directly from parents. Please speak to your school or support workers if you would like your child to be referred.
Once we have received a referral, we will assess whether the service can meet the needs of the young person. This assessment will include:
- A home visit with your family
- Discussion with your young person
- Input from you and your family
- Input from other professionals
- Individual risk assessment
We will also consider any previously identified targets, objectives and behaviour plans.
Any child or young person who is experiencing difficulties managing in school, pupil referral units, play/youth settings or the home environment can be referred to our Mentoring programme.
To refer a young person, download our referral form and send the completed form to gjames@paceforall.com
If you are a new commissioner, please also complete and send our TERMS AND CONDITIONS form.
On receipt of an enquiry, we will make an assessment as to whether
the project can meet the needs of the individual child/young
person.
This assessment will include:
• Discussion with the referring agency
• School/Home visit
• Input from the family & child
• Individual risk assessment
We will also consider any previously identified targets,
objectives and behaviour plans.
On completion of the assessment, we will allocate a 1:1 keyworker
who we feel will best be able to meet the needs and personality of
the young person.
